Math
In math, we have been adding and subtracting 3-digit numbers with regrouping using Base Ten, Place Value/ Expanded Form and Open Number Line strategies. In the coming weeks, we will be finding 10 more and 10 less than a number and 100 more and 100 less than a number and adding 4 numbers together.
Reading
Over the last few weeks, we have been reading original fairy tales such as Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Goldilocks and the Three Bears and The Three Little Pigs. We have also been reading fractured (modern, humorous) versions of the same fairy tales.
Our current language focus is on shades of meaning, we will continue this focus until the end of the 3rd quarter.
Writing
We are currently writing letters to persuade others to read our favorite version of an original or fractured fairy tale. Our writing will include a good lead in, we will need to state our opinion and use at least 2 reasons to support that opinion (with examples to reinforce each reason) and a good conclusion in which we restate our opinions and let our audience know our writing is coming to an end.
Content
We are currently studying Jackie Robinson and the civil rights movement, this learning will be very interactive through stations and centers, in which each child is in charge of their own learning. We will be moving on from Jackie Robinson to study our government and capitol buildings.
