Math- This week in math, we are working on coin recognition to prepare us to solve coin word problems. Our focus this week is to be able to recognize and know the value of pennies, nickels and dimes. Next week, our focus will shift slightly to applying our coin knowledge to help with solving both addition and subtraction word problems.
Reading- Our current focus for reading is to analyze characters and use their traits to predict how they may react to a problem or change throughout a story. Our upcoming reading standard is to determine the importance of text and use that to help sequence the events in a story.
Writing- We are continuing to work on our small moment stories and are really stressing the importance of revising and editing to make our work the best that it can be, just as the "master authors" that we have studied do. We have learned how to set the scene with a bold beginning, use details to put a movie in your reader's mind and make your reader feel things, use transition words to show the passing of time and finally, how to make a good ending, to signal to your reader that your story is coming to an end.
Social Studies/Science- We loved learning about the Creek and Cherokee Indians and our in - house field trip was a big hit! In the coming weeks, we will learn all about matter, each state of matter, how it can change and what causes those changes. We will be visiting with Mrs. Williams and Mrs. Simpson for Matter Day on September 23rd to reinforce our classroom learning with STEM activities.
September 26-30th is Fall Break, we hope you all have a fun, safe and relaxing week off!
