September and October were very busy for us in 2nd Grade! November and December will also be a busy time due to the holidays!
Important dates: Tuesday 11/8 Election Day - No school Thursday 11/10 All American Family Lunch 11/7 – 11/15 Thanksgiving Food Drive 11/21 – 11/25 Thanksgiving Break Math In math, we have been covering addition strategies, such as showing numbers using base ten blocks, adding using an open number line and a 100's chart, and using partial sums/place value to help us add numbers up to 100. In the coming weeks we will use the same strategies to help us subtract double digit numbers and then move into 1 and 2 step word problems. Reading In reading we have been focusing on sequencing and using the 5 W's (who, when, where, what and why) to help us ask and answer questions with informational text. In the coming weeks, we will shift our focus slightly to identifying cause and effect relationships with non fiction (informational) texts. Writing In the second quarter, our focus has shifted to writing informational texts and writing like a scientist, be sure to ask your child the steps of the scientific process (question, hypothesis, procedures, results and finally drafting a conclusion to discuss our results.) |
