Math- We have been very busy learning how to represent numbers 4 ways (Number Words, Base Ten Blocks, Place Value and Expanded Form). We will be moving on to applying mental strategies to help us fluently add and subtract within 10 and using those strategies to aid in solving word problems within 20.
Reading- Our focus for reading has been asking and answering questions to help us identify the main idea and supporting details of texts, we will be continuing with this skill for the next 2 weeks.
Writing- We have been studying the difference between common and proper nouns and using capital letters when we write proper nouns. In the next 2 weeks, we are also moving our focus to collective nouns. We are getting started in our writing process and will be learning how to take small, everyday moments and "zoom in' on them to use them as a focus for a story.
Social Studies/Science- .The students have been learning about cardinal and intermediate directions and the 5 different regions of Georgia. We have also been tracking the times of sunrise and sunset and how the seasonal changes impact the length of a day. We will be moving on to study the Creek and Cherokee Indians in the coming weeks.
On September 7th, we will be having an in-house field trip for our second graders to learn about the Creek Indians who once lived in Georgia. Please check your email for a link to volunteer during the time slot for your child's class!
