Upcoming Standards:
Reading: We will be reading multiple versions of the same story and discussing the similarities and differences between each version of the story. We will be charting the differences and comparing and contrasting the books using Venn Diagrams. We are reading multiple versions of a different story each week for several weeks. For example, one class might be reading multiple versions of Cinderella this week, multiple versions of The Three Little Pigs next week, and multiple versions of Jack and the Beanstalk the following week.
Writing: We will continue working on writing book reviews where the students select their favorite version of the books read aloud during shared reading and give reasons to support why that version is the best version of that story.
Spelling: Next week will be different spelling patterns for the vowel i.
Math: We will be working on partitioning rectangles and circles into two, three, or four equal parts. We will be working on solving word problems, including word problems involving fractions. Our mini-lessons will also focus on how to explain the mathematical thinking used to solve word problems (the sentences describing how you solved the problem). Explaining mathematical thinking can be a difficult concept, so we'll be focusing on improving that skill next week.
Science: We will continue the celestial bodies unit. We will be learning about different types of stars so we can compare and contrast the different types of stars.
