Keheley is collecting food to support local families during the holidays. Donations can be dropped off in the cafeteria. If you would like to donate food items or grocery gift cards, please send those items in by Wednesday, November 19th. Thank you!
Upcoming Standards:
Reading: All guided reading groups are continuing to work on building comprehension, increasing reading rate, improving expression, etc. We are modeling these skills during our reading mini-lessons. We will also be integrating the science and social studies curriculum as well as identifying the parts of speech. You can further support our lessons by finding nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs in books read at home.
Writing: The students will be revising, editing, and writing final copies of their historical figure papers. Please continue to work on the biography projects at home. If you need another copy of the project letter and/or a "cut out" template, both items can be located on the "homework" section of this website.
Spelling: Our spelling pattern will be short u words (spelled CVC, CCVC, CVCC, etc.) and long u words (spelled CVCe and CVVC). Students will be working on spelling words with short and long vowels as well as reading words with those spelling patterns.
Math: After working on using strategies based on place value to solve double digit addition problems with regrouping over the last two weeks, we will be transitioning to using those same strategies to solve subtraction problems with regrouping. Your child will need to know how to use a 100's chart, an open number line, base ten blocks, and place value (also referred to as "partial differences") to solve subtraction problems. We will also be working on math facts. At the end of second grade, students need to know from memory the sum of all single digit numbers (i.e. 3 + 8, 9 + 6, 5 + 2, etc.)
Social Studies: We will be reviewing the difference between goods and services and learning how goods and services are allocated. Right now, we are learning how goods and services are allocated by price, first-come first served, majority rule, and lottery.
Science: We will be reviewing the difference between pushing and pulling. We will be learning how pushing and pulling can affect the motion of an object. The vocabulary words for this unit will include: force, friction, motion, speed, and direction. The students will complete several different experiments to learn how friction can affect the distance an object travels, how forces affect the motion of objects, and more.
