It is hard to believe we are in the last nine weeks of school! With the weather warming up and staying lighter in the evening, please try to keep bedtime as consistent as possible, this makes for a much smoother day for everyone involved.
If you have not already done so, please sign and return BOTH report card receipts AND field trip permission slips.
Upcoming dates:
Straw Walk - March 30th during our specials (10:35-11:20)
Spring Break - April 3rd-7th
Healthy Kids Week - April 10th - 14th
Math
In math, we have been learning all about plane shapes, squares, rectangles, triangles, trapezoids, pentagons and hexagons. This week we begin learning how to partition plane shapes into equal shares and the names of those equal shares (halves, fourths, thirds, sixths). After we return from break, we will begin skip counting, place value and comparing numbers and return to addition and subtraction strategies within 1,000.
Reading
Since the beginning of the 4th Quarter, we have been focusing on comparing and contrasting the information given in 2 texts both on the same topic and will continue with this standard through the end of this week. Upon our return from break, we will begin to identify the main topic of paragraphs and then move onto determining the author's purpose.
Writing
We are currently writing narratives with elements of fantasy. We are building one story element at a time and have worked on our characters, setting and plot. This week, we will begin writing a rough draft of our narratives. Our next focus of writing will be writing informational texts.
Content
We are currently studying Jimmy Carter and our students LOVE learning about our American Heroes! After Jimmy, we will be moving on to study plant and animal life cycles, this will correspond with our field trip to Smith-Gilbert Gardens in Kennesaw on April 20th.
