2nd Grade will be performing at the PTA meeting on Tuesday, October 7th. A letter with more information will be coming home this week. Students should plan on meeting in their classrooms at 6:15. The performance will begin after the PTA meeting.
Coming Up After the Fall Break:
Reading: Our literacy mini-lessons will continue to focus on strengthening comprehension skills as well as integrating our Science, Social Studies, and Health curriculum.
Writing: Our writing mini-lessons will focus on expanding boring sentences by adding relevant and interesting details. The students will be applying those lessons as they take another a piece of writing through the full writing process by brainstorming, writing a rough draft, revising, editing, and producing a final copy.
Spelling: Our spelling pattern will be long o and short o words. Students will be working on spelling words with long and short o's as well as reading words with those spelling patterns.
Math: We will be reviewing the different strategies for solving double digit addition and subtraction problems. We want the students to understand how each strategy works, so they can select the strategy that works best for them. Different strategies may work better for different students, and the different strategies might best suit different addition and subtraction problems. We will be working on selecting the appropriate strategy and solving problems accurately. We will also be starting a unit on measurement. Students will be measuring the length of objects in centimeters and meters.
Science: We are starting a unit on matter. We will start by focusing on the three states of matter and transition to investigating changes in objects by tearing, dissolving, melting, freezing, squeezing, etc. We will be learning about how matter changes state for the next two weeks. We are excited about some experiments!
Health: We will be learning about healthy versus unhealthy food choices.
