Things to look forward to: PTA Performance (Tuesday, October 7th @ 6:30-arrive in the classroom @ 6:15), Fall Festival (Friday, October 10th @ 5:00), Conference Week (October 20th-October 24th)
Math: This week the students in second grade will be focusing on measuring using centimeters and meters. They will distinguish between when it is appropriate to measure with centimeters and when meters might be the better choice. Students will be applying their learned measuring skills to measure items in class and at home.
Reading: Our mini lessons this week will be focused on understanding the "who", "what", "where", "when", and "why" of a story. This may be reiterated during guided reading groups. We will also be integrating our health and technology standards into our mini lessons, by creating a mini project about healthy eating habits using the computer program KidPix.
Writing: Students will continue to improve upon their narrative writing through revising and editing. We will be introducing a new program called Mountain Language (grammar, synonyms, phonics, etc.). Lastly, we will discuss when words need to be capitalized in a sentence.
Science: This is an exciting week in Science as we will be doing more hands-on experiments and preparing for our "Matter Day". Matter Day is a day dedicated to understanding the different matter phases and how/why matter can change from one phase to another.
