Upcoming Standards:
Reading: We will be reading multiple versions of the same story and discussing the similarities and differences between each version of the story. We will be charting the differences and comparing and contrasting the books using Venn Diagrams.
Writing: We will continue working on opinion writing. The students have been working on writing a bold beginning, giving reasons to support their opinion, and and writing an excellent ending. After finishing up the current "would you rather" paragraph, we will begin working on writing an opinion piece about what makes a book a good book. They will be picking a favorite version of the story read aloud during shared reading and writing a book review where they summarize the main events and give reasons to support their opinion of the book.
Spelling: Next week will be different spelling patterns for the vowel u.
Math: We will continue working on solving word problems. We will also be working on partitioning rectangles into equal parts. Second graders are responsible for dividing rectangles and circles into halves, thirds, and fourths. We will be focusing on partitioning rectangles this week and move to circles in the future.
Science: We will begin our unit on celestial bodies. We will be learning about different types of stars, including the sun. All the second grade classes will be visiting the StarLab this week to learn more about stars and constellations.
