The Book Exchange for K-2 students is on Wednesday, November 12th. If your child wants to participate, he or she can bring a maximum of 10 books to school on Monday or Tuesday. He or she will receive a voucher to pick out that many books on Wednesday.
Keheley is collecting food to support local families during the holidays. Donations can be dropped off in the cafeteria.
Upcoming Standards:
Reading: Our guided reading groups are working hard to build comprehension, increase reading rate, improve expression, etc. We are modeling these skills during our reading mini-lessons. We will also be working on identifying the parts of speech. Determining if a word is a noun, verb, adjective, or adverb is a weakness for some students. You can further support our lessons by finding nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs in books read at home.
Writing: The students have been busy researching their selected historical figures. They gathered information from PebbleGO (an online resource) and books. They will be using that information to write five paragraph papers this week. We will be working on a paragraph a day. Then, they will be revising, editing, and writing final copies of their papers the following week. The students are now experts on their historical figures. They should be ready to start working on their biography projects. If you need another copy of the project letter and/or a "cut out" template, both items can be located on the "homework" section of this website.
Spelling: Our spelling pattern will be short o words (spelled CVC, CCVC, CVCC, etc.) and long o words (spelled CVCe and CVVC). Students will be working on spelling words with short and long vowels as well as reading words with those spelling patterns.
Math: We worked on solving double digit addition problems with regrouping last week. We used the 100's chart, open number lines, and base ten blocks to solve these problems. We will be introducing partial sums with regrouping problems as well as reviewing the other strategies. We will also be working on math facts. At the end of second grade, students need to know from memory the sum of all single digit numbers (i.e. 3 + 8, 9 + 6, 5 + 2, etc.)
Social Studies: We will be reviewing the difference between goods and services and learning how goods and services are allocated.
